All Good Men Come With Big Packages

3 in 5 Men Underestimate The Importance Of Size

Does size matter? A basic Google search will give you over 70,000,000 possible sources to solve the debate, but a recent survey by Smooch.com shows that 64% of men underestimate the importance of size.

Over 4,000 members of the free online dating website Smooch.com were asked whether size really mattered. The data highlighted that 25% more women than men believed that size does matter.

Some may suggest that size does not matter within a loving, long-term relationship, but they’d be wrong. Surprisingly, women who were looking for romance and marriage online were the most size conscious. Whilst 50% of those looking for marriage and 47% of those looking or romance said that size did matter, those looking for ‘fun’ were the least concerned (40%) by the size.

Intriguingly, the results also appear to validate the theory that men who drive around in big flashy cars are over-compensating for something else. Men with a high-range salary were the most likely (45%) to believe that size does matter.

Fight For This Love?

by Julia 26th February 2010 05:21

Celebrity Mr and Mistress – Only 1 in 4 Singles Would ‘Fight For This Love’ Like Cheryl Cole

Research conducted by free online dating website Smooch.com reveals public opinion on Celebrity Cheats; just 26% of single men and women would stand by an unfaithful partner.

The celebrity laundrette has seen a remarkable influx of dirty laundry since the start of the New Year. Stars such as Tiger Woods, Vernon Kay, John Terry and Ashley Cole have all played their role in the world of Celebrity Mr and Mistress; so Smooch set out to investigate how the public would react to a cheating partner.

Over 7,500 members were polled in 12 hours by free online dating website Smooch.com. Single men and women were asked ‘What would you do if your partner cheated?’ Whilst 26% agreed with Cheryl Cole that if it’s worth having, it’s worth fighting for, a staggering 62% would fight with a golf club like Elin Nordegren rather than fight for love.

Intriguingly, 1 in 3 men would fight for love compared to only 1 in 5 women. The results also confirm that Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned as 67% of women would reach for the nearest golf club compared to 57% of men. Whilst just 13% of women and 10% of men would cry if they discovered that their partner cheated.

The statistics also indicate that age is likely to influence a person’s reaction to an unfaithful partner. Those aged 61 and above were the most likely (36%) age group to fight to save a relationship if they discovered their partner had cheated; compared to only 24% of those aged 18-24.

14% of singles aged 18-24 would cry if their partner cheated on them, however as age increased, the tears steadily decreased to 10% of those aged 61 and above. Furthermore, violent revenge was the most popular response for those aged 31-35.

In a separate study, Smooch asked 2,000 singles about trusting a person who has previously cheated. 64% of women compared to 45% of men believed that once a cheat, always a cheat. The results also confirmed the trend that men are more forgiving than women with 1 in 3 men believing people make mistakes compared to less than 1 in 4 women.

Nevertheless, it appears men are 7 times more likely than women to follow in the footsteps of unfaithful celebrities as they believe it is only cheating if you get caught.

Additional information:

Smooch surveys are extremely detailed, incorporating information about its respondents as detailed as facial hair and weight, allowing us to unearth the following strange facts:

  • Members aged 31-35 were the least likely to fight to save their relationship, however they were the most likely to seek violent revenge as 67%.
  • Those with a very high salary were the most likely to fight for love (30%), whilst those with a low range income were the most likely to cry (15%).
  • Aquarians were the most likely star sign to fight for love; Sagittarians were the most violent towards cheaters, whilst Scorpio’s was the most likely to cry over an unfaithful partner.
  • Singles in Sheffield were the most likely to try and save a relationship after infidelity. Portsmouth is home to the most tearful singletons, whilst 77% of members in Croydon would chase their partner with a gold club.

Research:

Smooch.com polled 7,554 members over a 12 hour period for the first poll, and 2,040 members in the second survey. Members responses remain anonymous, however, detailed statistics such as age, height, weight, build, attractiveness, hair colour, hair style, facial hair, drinking and smoking habits, education, salary and even star sign are readily available on request.

The Sweat Smell Of Romance

by Julia 14th February 2010 05:01

Body Odour Is The Top Turn-Off For 43% Of Singles This Valentine's Day

Forget Perfume, Chocolates and Flowers. A new survey by Smooch.com reveals deodorant could solve your Valentine's Day Dilemma.

Love may be in the air, but there is a fine line between a musky aroma and a musty odour. In a recent study by Smooch.com, body odour beats unemployment, weight and oral hygiene to top the list of biggest turn-offs.

Free online dating website Smooch.com asked over 17,000 members what was the biggest turn-off in a potential partner; just under half (43%) of the single men and women said that body odour was the biggest turn-off when looking for love.

Singles looking for a Valentine's day smooch rated bad oral hygiene as the second biggest turn-off. 32% of members said bad oral hygiene was the biggest turn-off; this was almost double the amount of those who felt excess weight was the biggest turn-off (17%).

The fourth biggest turn-off was unemployment (6%) whilst being underweight was only problematic for 2% of members.

It seems that men are still expected to bring home the bacon as women were twice as likely as men to say unemployment was the biggest turn-off. Women were also more likely than men to say body odour and poor oral hygiene were the biggest turn off.

On the other hand, nearly a quarter of the men surveyed (24%) said that excess weight was the biggest turn-off compared to just 9% of women. However, men were also twice as likely as women to say and underweight partner was the biggest turn-off.

Additional information:
Smooch surveys are extremely detailed, incorporating information about its respondents as detailed as facial hair and weight, allowing us to unearth the following strange facts:

  • People who wear glasses are more likely than those who don’t to find body odour the biggest turn-off – possibly a heightened sense of smell compensates for impaired vision.

  • Members who were looking for marriage online were more than three times as likely to find unemployment the biggest turn-off compared to those looking for friendship.

  • Men with a pungent aroma should head towards Barnet where only 14% of women found body odour a turn-off

  • Unsurprisingly, heavy smokers were the least likely to be turned off by bad oral hygiene (28%)

  • Vegans were twice as likely as vegetarians to find an underweight partner the biggest turn-off.

Research:
Smooch.com polled 17,501 members over a three day period. Members responses remain anonymous, however, detailed statistics such as age, height, weight, build, attractiveness, hair colour, hair style, facial hair, drinking and smoking habits, education, salary and even star sign are readily available on request.

Papa Don't Preach

Papa Don't Preach – Because 85% Won't Listen

New Research By Smooch.com Reveals That Only 15% Of People Try To Impress Their Partner's Father.

The tradition of asking a father for his daughter's hand in marriage could soon be a thing of the past. Free online dating site Smooch.com asked over 13,000 members who they felt it was most important to impress in a new relationship; only 15% of them thought that it was important to impress their partner's father. Nevertheless, men (17%) were more likely than women (13%) to try and impress their partner's father.

The majority of respondents (34%) believed that in a new relationship it was the children who held the key to a success in love. Interestingly,  39% of women would try to impress their partner's children compared to only 29% of  men. Arguably, this could be a direct result of their own maternal instincts, or possibly the fear of playing the role of the wicked step-mother.

With children at the top, and fathers at the bottom of the pecking order, the number of people  targeting their partner's mother and friends was relatively equal. Impressing your partner's friends was the second highest choice with 26% of responses, closely followed by 25% who opted to impress the matriarch.

Interestingly, there was very little difference in male responses between each category, 29% said children, 27% said mother and 27% said friends, whilst 17% said father. In contrast, women's responses were far less uniform, 39% said children, 24% said mother, 24% said friends and 13% said father. This may indicate that men are less likely to see the need to impress those around their partner, whilst women are more inclined to seek approval and acceptance from those closest to their partner.

Outside of gender, age also affected members' responses. Those aged 18-24 were the most likely to appeal to their partner's mother (16%) or father (7%). Friends were most likely to be targeted by members aged 25-30. Whilst children were the dominant focus for those aged 51-60. Arguably, the older the partner, the more likely they are to have children and the less likely they are to having living parents, thus older members sought the approval of their partner's children more than that of their parents; the reverse is also likely to be true.

Additional information:
Smooch surveys are extremely detailed, incorporating information about its respondents as detailed as facial hair and weight, allowing us to unearth the following strange facts.

  • Those who said they did not like children were most likely to try and impress their partner's friends (36%).
  • Only a fifth of those who wanted children would try to impress their partner's children.
  • Teetotal members were most likely to appease their partner's children (36%) whilst regular drinkers thought it was more important to impress the friends (32%)
  • Libras are the most likely to attach themselves to their partner's mother, while fathers are the target of Scorpios. Virgos were the most likely to seek approval from their partner's friends, and children are the object of a Capricorn's attention.

Research:
Smooch.com polled 13,627 members over a three day period. Members responses remain anonymous, however, detailed statistics such as age, height, weight, build, attractiveness, hair colour, hair style, facial hair, drinking and smoking habits, education, salary and even star sign.

Lust & Marriage

by Julia 15th January 2010 05:37

Lust & Marriage – 52% Of Men Would Say

‘I Do, Ooh, Ooh, Ooh’ To A Porn Star

Results from a series of studies conducted by free dating website Smooch.com reveal that men are 7 times more likely than women to date and marry a porn star.

Members of the website were asked the question, ‘Would you date a porn star?’. More than half the men surveyed said they would date a porn star compared to only 7% of women. Unsurprisingly, those who said they were using dating sites for “fun” were the most likely (58%) to date a porn star.

Having establshed the nation’s willingness to date a porn star, Smooch asked members whether they would be willing to marry one. Whilst the percentage of those willing to marry a porn star declined, surprisingly nearly 30% of men said they would marry a porn star. Nevertheless, the ratio between men and women remained the same; as with dating a porn star, seven times more men (28%) said they would marry a porn star than women (4%).

Arguably, although more members would choose to date a porn star, than to marry one, the results suggest that not all of the members who would date a porn star were motivated by sexual desire. Thus it would appear that in a reversal of the historically traditional position, men are more accepting of a ‘sexually experienced’ partner than women.

Additional information:
Smooch surveys are extremely detailed, incorporating information about its respondents as detailed as facial hair and weight, allowing us to unearth the following strange facts.

  • Moustaches were arguably a requirement for men in the adult industry during the 70s. Nowadays, men with beards are more than twice as likely to date a porn star than men with moustaches.

  • Think “lad’s mag” centrefold and you instantly think blonde; however only 23% of blondes would date a porn star compared to 40% of those with black hair.

  • People who described themselves as average looking were less likely to marry a porn star (19%) compared to 38% of users who described themselves as ‘stunning’.

  • Low wage earners are far less likely (25%) to fantasize about the plumber than those with a high range salary (64%).

Members aged 31-35 were the most likely to date a porn star (42%), and those aged 36-40 were the most likely to marry a porn star (24%). Either side of these age groups agreement gradually declines, though it is unlikely for the same reasons.

Research:
Smooch.com polled 2,909 members over a 12 hour period for the first survey, and 1,085 members in the follow up study.

All I Want For Christmas Is You?

by Julia 14th December 2009 11:47

Who Will Be Filling Your Partner's Stockings This Christmas?

As the work Christmas party looms should you worry about your partner's fidelity

A series of studies carried out by the free dating website Smooch.com and gay chat website Mancentral.com highlights that when it comes to trusting cheats, some gender divisions will never change.

With the festive season rapidly approaching, our minds are flooded with endless questions and dilemmas, “What shall I buy Mum this year?”, “Will I get socks again?”, “Ball-balls or Tinsel” and so on. But whilst you browse the department stores in search of the perfect gift, humming along to the Mariah Carey classic All I Want For Christmas Is You, consider whether your partner is singing from the same hymn sheet.

Members of the free dating website Smooch.com were asked: Once a cheat, always a cheat? A staggering 64% of women surveyed 'definitely' agreed with the statement compared with only 45% of men.

Interestingly, the results showed that men were more likely to forgive and forget with 36% of men believing that people make mistakes, whilst less than a quarter of women were inclined to accept the notion of human error.

However ladies, before you return your partner to the manufacturer for repair, it appears that this attitude is fitted as standard on the male species regardless of age or sexuality. Results from the gay dating and chat website ManCentral.com paralleled that of Smooch as 40% of gay men 'definitely' believed once a cheat, always a cheat.

But what can you really take away from this research? Well, for the ladies, if you do fall foul of the Babycham this Christmas over a third of men will forgive you. As for the men...nearly two thirds of women won't just be roasting chestnuts by an open fire this holiday season.

Additional breakdowns revealed:

  • People with a PhD (67%) are almost twice as likely to respond 'Definitely' than those with a Masters Degree (34%).

  • Unsurprisingly, divorcees (59%) are less forgiving than those who are married (29%).

  • People in a relationship (19%) are nearly 4 times as likely to choose 'It's only cheating if you get caught' than Single respondents (5%).

  • The starsign Cancer is least forgiving with 64% choosing 'Definitely' whilst the most forgiving starsign is Gemini with 34% choosing 'People make mistakes'.

Research:

Smooch.com polled 2,040 members and ManCentral.com polled 1,998 members over a 24 hour period. Detailed statistics & breakdowns available on request.
