Dating Search mini-upgrade

Making It Easier To Search Harder.

Dating Search TopOur stats show that Smooch members are only looking at a couple of pages of search results, and not really searching deep for that special someone. We think this is partly our fault, so we fixed one of Smooch's annoying navigation niggles yesterday.

Before this upgrade, clicking on a profile in the search results would leave you with no way back to the same place in the search. You might have been on page 10 in the search results, viewed a profile, then clicked "Find Matches" or "Who's Online" again, only to find yourself back on page 1. This meant that members were spending lots of time on the first pages of results, and not much at all on later pages (where so many great members can be found!).

To make it easier we've added a "Back to Search Results" button to profiles when those profiles have been visited from a search. This will allow you to go straight back to whichever page you were on in whichever search you were using ( "Find Matches" or "Who's Online").

And just in case you're at the bottom of a profile when you decide to go back to search, we've added the same link at the bottom.

Brilliant idea to have the Back to Search button
May I make a suggestion too?
Could we have a "Who I've Looked At" button please?

Hi Honey_1,
How would you want that to work? Would it be a list of all the people you'd looked at (like Who's Viewed Me), in order of when you looked at them?

For members on our hotlist could it also have when they last logged in? Also, it's really helpful knowing when someone has read your mail but could you also give the time! Just a thought

Hi Sallilonglegs,

There is a postcode search already. But your feedback makes me think it's not clear how to use it. I'll write a blog post explaining in details how to get the best out of it, but in the mean time here are some quick instructions:

1) Click on "Find Matches" on the menu
2) You'll now be on your "What you are looking for" page.
3) You can save different kinds of searches here, but they all allow you to input your postcode and the distance from your postcode you want to search. Change either or both of these pieces of information.
4) Click "Save Search Criteria" at the bottom of the page.
5) It will automatically start a search using these new criteria.
6) The search defaults to showing people in the order they logged on (most recent to least recent). You can change this by choosing the "Distance" radio button next to "Choose sort by".

Hope that helps.

Great suggestions kittycat108. We'll add them to the list of upgrades we're considering.

Nice addition, though I usually just open results in a new tab.

It would be handy if the result showed whether or not you already meet their criteria, a little tick or cross. Better yet, when you block someone, you are invisible to them and they are to you. Good for getting rid of anyone with a race restriction Tong

Great feature the back to search button.

May I make a few suggestions as well? Smile

I think it would be nice to have a "hide" button as way of preventing profiles I'm not interested from coming up on the results.

Would also be great to be able to sort the "who is online" search by the time the person last logged in.

Is the "new" tag on profiles indicate people new to me (i haven't seen their profile) or new to smooch? It would be great to have a quick indication on the profile box (as they appear in the search results) as to wether I saw that profile and wether I sent that person a message. Even better if that was a date (last seen xx/xx/xxxx, last message sent xx/xx/xxxx)

Thanks Smile

Without any doubt, the most decisive issue when dating, seems to be the "do you smoke" debate. As a smoker, I really only want to date a smoker. Many non smokers, will not even consider someone who smokes. This means that we all pour through endless profiles, only to discover that no matter how fantastic they look or sound, they are not for us! This could easily be fixed, simply by changing the "dont mind" to a yes/no/dont mind answer. Its a huge issue, in my experience, from both sides of the fence...

Thank you though, for the absolutely fantastic service that you provide. Streets ahead of the opposition.

Would it be possible to add page numbers to the search pages? For instance, you may be going through the pages, see someone you like the look of on say the 3rd page, make a mental note of which page they're on, and then keep going through some more pages, before deciding to go back to the person you were interestsd in. You could then simply click on the number 3, regardless of the current page you were on, to take you back to that page. This would be easier than the current process of trying to remember roughly which page of your search you saw someone you liked on, no?

Since the upgrade, the emails to noticey you there is a messages left, it takes hours to comes through, so you dont get to mail the person back as 9 times out of 10 they have gone off line or think you arent interested

Would it also be possible to have an archive under the search heading of people we've viewed? I know the Hotlist kind of does this already, but having your own personal archive is a much easier way to manage and remember whom you have viewed. I believe this is a feature that some other free dating sites already employ, and as Smooch is the best I've come across so far, it would be great if the best got just that little bit better!

Why not the date joined on the profile page as well?
