Cookie Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This policy explains what cookies are, which ones you may find on your device when you use Smooch, and how to manage them.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They usually hold the name of the site that set them, how long they last and a random identifier. Some also remember your settings or what you did on the site.
Websites can also use similar technologies: browser storage (which keeps information on your device in the same way), pixel tags in emails, tracking links and, in apps, software development kits (SDKs). In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these.
2. Kinds of cookies
- First-party cookies are set by us. Third-party cookies are set by our partners and service providers.
- Session cookies last until you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them.
3. What Smooch uses
Essential. These make Smooch work and cannot be switched off:
- browser storage that keeps you logged in to the members area, remembers settings such as your search filters, and records your cookie choice;
- Google reCAPTCHA, which sets cookies when you sign up, log in or reset your password, to check you are a real person.
Statistics. Our website host's visitor statistics and speed measurements count visits and page speed without using cookies, and we remove anything after the "?" in addresses before they are sent, so links containing your email address are never recorded.
Payments. When you buy a membership or add-on, you complete the payment on our payments partner's secure checkout. It uses its own cookies, which may include Google Analytics, to run the checkout and measure how it performs.
Emails. Emails we send may contain pixel tags and tracking links, so we can tell whether an email was opened and which links work best.
We do not use advertising cookies on www.smooch.com or in the members area.
4. Managing cookies
You can choose to accept or reject optional cookies using the banner shown on your first visit. Most browsers also let you see, block or delete cookies and browser storage, and warn you when a site sets one; your browser's help pages explain how. On a phone you can usually reset your advertising identifier in its settings.
If you block essential cookies or storage, you will not be able to stay logged in to the members area.
To opt out of Google Analytics on any site, you can install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
5. More information
For how we handle your personal information more generally, see our Privacy Policy. Companies whose services we use, such as Google, have their own privacy policies explaining what they collect.
